The promoters behind the Parkview Cycling Festival are
also the founders of the Fort Wayne, IN-based cycling club,
Men of Steel Racing. Jim Kruse and John Martin are on a
mission to promote the health, fitness and fun of cycling.
They were recently featured in the June 2011 issue of Fort
Wayne Monthly magazine. They hope you'll join them for
the ride.
Jim Kruse
Jim has an affinity for anything vintage; cars, motorcycles
and old racing bicycles. He started in organized racing
bicycles at the age of 11 but quit at 14 "so my mom could
sleep at night." A star athlete in high school track and
field, Jim has since given up competitive running for the
bike. After graduating from Indiana University-Purdue
University Fort Wayne, he went to work for K&K Insurance
as a sales executive and program manager. His job led
him to the Seattle, WA-area in 2002 as Vice President of
Aon Collector Car Insurance, a division of Aon
Corporation. In 2006, he started his own company with
his wife, focused on insuring collector cars. Jim is a
familiar face in the collector car industry and so are his
vintage vehicles. He's a champion state and regional time
trialist and continues to race bikes competitively with the
Men of Steel Racing Team.
John Martin
Growing up in a farming community in Indiana, a bike was
simply a way for John to get to the park to play basketball.
When his NBA career didn't pan out, he just kept riding.
John started racing competitively while attending Purdue
University, but it wasn't until after college that he got
hooked into the racing scene. He "retired" from corporate
America to focus on his wife and two kids. When he's not
riding, racing or promoting cycling, he's busy as a Sunday
School teacher, a volunteer and assistant teacher at his
kids' school, an assistant flag football coach, the head
cook and bottle washer, a chauffeur, and a bike shop
mechanic. John continues to race bikes competitively with
the Men of Steel Racing Team.
Mylien Kruse
Mylien enjoys cycling from the sidelines. She manages
the technical details of MoSR, the events they promote,
and the design of the race team apparel. With more than
14 years experience in broadcasting as a television
reporter and producer, Mylien is a valuable resource and
advisor for MoSR. Mylien has an eye for detail and design,
which is why she's passionate about vintage cars, antique
clothes and architecture. But she doesn't mind hanging
out with guys who shave their legs.
